8.5) Planning for the future

National press

National press is newspaper, in them are advertised job, this means employer's have advertised jobs on the newspaper. Advertising on newspaper is a good way to employ people as billions read newspapers daily, this means it is a quick way to employ new employee's.




An example of this would be the newspaper called Guardian, Guardian is known to advertise jobs there, Guardian has advertised thousands of jobs, many people have got jobs through their newspaper.Guardian has advertises all kind of jobs even jobs which are in the TV industry like TV assistant, their job will be to do task like write scripts. 

An advantage for the employee is that anyone can apply do this job so everyone has equal opportunity and the guardian has all the updated newspaper so they'll have all the recent jobs, this means the jobs would still be available. An disadvantage is that the employee will need to pay a small subscription fee, this means that it is not free as their is a small subscription fee.

An advantage for the employer is that by advertising job on the newspaper means that they'll have a lot of applicants as over millions look for jobs on the newspaper, this means that they can get employee's very fast. A disadvantage for the employer is that most of the applicants don't have experience which means most of the applicant will be a waste of time because anyone can apply.


Trade press

Trade press is a magazine which is aimed a specific people, by this i mean that the magazine is created for a niche audience, trade press advertises job in the specific industry this helps the potential worker narrow the jobs as trade press have magazines for different industries this means that all the job advertised in the magazine are all related to the industry they have chosen.





An example of this would be media week as they are a magazine which has advertised job, this means that people are interested in media industry they'll be looking in this kind of magazine, media week have many job like on of the TV job is being a planner for sky which is a British broadcaster, this means they'll have to plan key dates for sky and plan where the shows will be schedule at.

An advantage for the employee is that the jobs are narrowed as only the media industry this means that the all the jobs will come, this makes it easy and quick. An disadvantage is that for  the employer is that you have to pay subscription even if you do not get a job, this is a downside because you have to pay money even if you are not a successful applicant this means you'll be taking a risk.

An advantage for the employer is that they are able to advertise to the right target audience this means that they are aiming at the right audience because only people who want media jobs will buy that magazine. A disadvantage for the employer is that they many employee may not want to pay for the magazine this means them not knowing about the job which can lead to the employer struggling to find right employee.

Internet 

Internet is when employee uses these 3rd party websites which advertisers the job but does not actually let you do the application there, it would direct you to the main business page. There are many 3rd party websites online, most of them will be funded by the business as they'll be funding for them advertising the job.

An example of a company which is a 3rd party would be Mandy.com as they advertise film and TV industry jobs, this means businesses pay Mandy to advertise there job on their page. Mandy is a good way to get a film and TV industry job as they have over thousands of job on their page, this means it is easy and quick to use as it directs you to the job application which is on the business page.

An advantage for the employee is that it is very easy and quick as all the media related jobs are their and these 3rd party websites have pages of jobs. A disadvantage is that their is a lot of competition because these pages are free to use, this means anyone can access this is why it is very tricky to find job on these websites.

An advantage for the employer is that there is a large audience online which means that many people would apply, this allows the employer to choose the best applicants. A disadvantage for the employer is that there 3rd party websites are not updated daily which means that you can have a lot of late applicants.


Word of mouth

Word of mouth means there is not an actual job advert, this means that they recommend someone to the employer this is often called referring someone, many people have got jobs like this as employers ask their employee's if they do because they may be a hard worker or a fast learner.






An example of this would be you asking people which recommend people this will lead to them recommending you as you may have the skill, for example they may be making a new show this will mean they need a production team if someone knows you they may recommend you.

An advantage for the employee is that they may not even be looking for new job, this opens up opportunity as they may recommended for a promotion, this they can progress in the film and TV industry. A disadvantage is that you may not know any one in the film industry this can mean you not getting a job. 

An advantage for the employer is that it is less struggle as they know they won't need to advertise job this means they won't have to create job advert, this means it will be less time consuming as it can take around six month to find a good candidate. A disadvantage for the employer is that it may not spread to the right employee, by this i mean they may not have right skill for the job.

Networking  

Networking means knowing people who know people that have the right job for you, this means giving you a link for a job.

An example of this would be someone knows someone who is recruiting in the film and TV industry, this means the employer may need a production team this where the person tells you that someone who they new is looking for a production,this is how the link with the job.

An advantage for the employee is that they would have more chance getting job because they person will trust the person linking you with the job, this means that they'll be more likely to employ you if the know some one has recommended you. A disadvantage is that the employee needs to maintain relationship so that they get the job this can be hard if they do not work well.

An advantage for the employer is that the person who linked the employee will have credit ability this means they'll be responsible of the person. A disadvantage for the employer is that as the employee has recommended them means that they are friends or family this may mean them talking while working this can affect the employer as they may not do as much work.

Personal Contact

Personal contact is when some you know gives you a number of a employer who is looking for employee's, this means that you will have more chance to get the actual job as you have been recommended. An example of this will be someone giving you a contact of a director who is a film director looking for production team, they may want to employ you as you have the skill.

An advantage for the employee is that even if they do not have the skills they can recommend people who are looking for jobs and they may have the skills for the job. A disadvantage for the employee is that they will need to know the people in the specific industry, this may be difficult as not everyone works in the film industry.

An advantage for the employer is that the costs will be cheaper as they do not need to make an job advert, also will be less time consuming because they may interview many without the skills, however the person which is recommended will have the skills already. A disadvantage is that some people recommend people they know, rather than knowing if they actually are a hard worker or even if they have the actual skills.

Internal Promotion

Internal promotion means promoting existing staff which work for the company, this means all the employee may have the potential skill to progress within the business. An example of this will maybe if you start to work as a runner for a business this means working with the director, helping them with admin work. If you do your job good it can lead to you being promoted to being the production team, this means you will be getting paid more as being in the production team means more work which means more money.

An advantage for the employee is that they know the company will,so they won't have to adjust to the environment, as they'll know most of the workers there. A disadvantage for the employee maybe that they may receive hatred from applicants that didn't get the job, this may mean them not working as they usually did.

An advantage for the employer would be that you will already know if the employee is ready for the promotion by check previous performance, this means checking if they have performed well and have they met their targets, also it can save the employer money as they won't have to advertise the job outside of the business.

Trade Fairs

Trade fairs is a big event organised for different industries, usually big companies are there so that they can show their latest inventions. An example of this will be a trade fair is the Camera Slovakia Brastislava, this event was for the people in the film industry it was held in Bratislava, in the event the had new inventions for the people in the film industry like new camera's which has unique feature.




An advantage for the employee is that you can see different companies there in one day, this makes it less time consuming because they do not have to book appointment. A disadvantage will be that the employee may get lost in the crowd as they are over 10,000 people in the event, this may mean them not seeing all the companies.

An advantage for the employer is that all the employee's which are the best and committed will be there, this may make it less time consuming for the employer because they won't need to advertise the job which will mean them saving a lot of money as well as they may need to train staff which do not have any experience in the industry. A disadvantage for the employer is that the not all people there are looking for job and they are thousands of people there, this means them not being able to every single person
